[[Willie]] finds [[Flakey Pete|Pete]] in the garage and offers to help him at the [[Social Services Department of Los Angeles County|Social Services Department]]. [[Flakey Pete|Pete]] discovers [[ALF]] and calls the [[Alien Task Force]] and asks about a reward. Initially, they think he's crazy, but then they notice that [[Raquel Ochmonek]] reported a sighting at the same address previously, so they decide to check it out. Since [[ALF]] ate the [[Tanner Family|Tanner]]'s Thanksgiving turkey, they were invited by the [[Ochmonek family|Ochmoneks]] for their Thanksgiving dinner. While the [[Tanners]] were at the [[Ochmonek]]'s house, [[Flakey Pete]] goes inside and confronts [[ALF]].

It's raining outside, and Brian is rehearsing for his school Thanksgiving play with ALF helping out. Some lightning flashes and ALF counts the time until the thunder comes. They continue reading and Kate comes in to offer Brian a snack. He declines because ALF wants him to learn method acting. Kate then brings out a horn of plenty, and ALF bits on an artificial apple not knowing it's made of wax. Raquel comes to the back door. He talks to Kate about the "bum" hanging out in the neighborhood. Kate corrects her and says it's "homeless person" Raquel says that someone's been feeding him. She's describing him just as Willie comes in with some frozen cornish game hens.. they were out of turkeys. Raquel then suggests the Tanners invite themselves over to the Ochmoneks for Thanksgiving. Willie thanks her and she heads out. Kate notices the sweet potato pie is gone. Willie asks ALF what happened to it. ALF says he ate half and give the rest to the homeless person hanging around. He also give him some of Willie's clothes including the Italian sweater Kate gave him for their anniversary. ALF says it's tradition to help less fortunate people during Fappiano. Willie goes out to look for the clothes and finds his bathroom too. He then overhears the homeless person singing in the garage singing Glen Campbell's "Gentle on My Mind" Willie goes into investigate. When finished the song, he introduces himself [[Flakey Pete|"Flakey" Pete]] Finnegan. He tells Willie that his star chart is missing a new quasar in the Pleiades. The Tanners are getting ready to leave for the Ochmoneks. ALF is upset that he's going to be home alone, but Willie tells him it's his fault. Willie gives ALF a list of do's and don'ts along with the Ochmoneks phone number. At the Ochmoneks the table is being set, Trevor has Willie sit next to uncle Rocky, and Raquel has Lynn sit next to Dudley. Trevor has Rocky carve the turkey. He's a former army surgeon and carves it very slowly. Dudley reminds Lynn that they used to take baths together as small children.. ALF is celebrating Fappiano with a candle on a patty of cold meatloaf. He then looks at the number which he was told not to call except if there is an emergency and he wonders if boredom counts as an emergency. Lynn comes over and gives ALF some pumpkin Jell-o for dessert, and he declines. Pete is wandering around the backyard looks into one of the windows and sees Lynn talking to ALF. She tells ALF she needs to get because the Ochmoneks are going to sing "Das Cornucopia" from Wagner-Strauss" Der Feasterfamine"

At the Alien Task Force office they're watching a football game on TV and a phone call comes in from Pete. He tells them he's seen an alien. Descrbing him as furry with a nose the shape of Nebraska. They sarcastically ask if it's a dog, and are about to write him off until they notice that [[Raquel Ochmonek]] reported a sighting at the same address previously, so they decide to check it out. Pete gets off the phone with him, and goes in to confront ALF.

ALF tells Pete about the Alien Task Force and why it's important to keep his existence a secret. At the Ochomeks, Trevor and Raquel are singing "Das Cornucopia" Jake is playing the drums and Raquel is wearing a horned helmet. The mirror breaks while they are singing. ALF and Pete introduce themselves to each other and the cordless phone in Pete's pocket rings. He answers and its the Alien Task Force on the line. Pete pretends it's his mother so ALF doesn't know who he's talking to. They tell him they're on their way, and hope to capture ALF alive. At the Ochmoneks a toddler, Jason catapults some food squash and hits Willie in the face.

ALF shows Pete some pictures of his home planet and his friends in the Orbit Guards. ALF tells him about how things there were fun until the nuclear explosion. Pete says violence is why he left the military, and ALF tells him that he's the one who left out the food for him. The phone rings again, and the Alien Task Force say they'll be there in 30 minutes, and that they'll call back and let the phone ring once when they're ready to come in. Jake and Brian show up, and ALF introduces them to Pete. ALF asks what happened to dinner, and Jake says Rocky is still carving it.

At the Ochmoneks Kate and Willie compliment on the food. Jake comes back and tells Willie that Pete is at the house with ALF. The family rushes home and are relieved that ALF is ok. Willie angrily asks ALF why he let a stranger into the house. ALF says that it's Fappiano and to lighten up. Willie explains to Pete that ALF is stranded on Earth and that they've adopted him into their family and they care about him. He invites Pete to stay for some supper. He declines, but ALF begs him to stay. Pete says he could stay for a short time. He sits down, and Brian invites him to the play. ALF says how he wishes he could see the play too, so Willie shows him a basket with a hole in it for ALF to hide. The phone rings once but the caller hung up. Knowing it's the Alien Task Force, Pete goes out to meet them while the family sings the Thanksgiving Hymn. The Alien Task Force brings Pete into their van, and he tells them *he* is the alien and that he's ready to go. The Alien Task Force are mad that they came all that way and that they missed the end of the football game. Pete goes back into the house as the family finishes singing.

Turkey in the Straw is the seventh and eighth episode of ALF's third season. It originally aired from Nov 14-15, 1988.

Plot Summary

Part 1

Teaser

Kate is trying to program the microwave to prepare for Thanksgiving dinner. ALF is reading instructions to her which confuse her and she realizes he's reading her the manual for the VCR.
