Stop in the Name of Love is the first episode of ALF's third season. It originally aired on October 3, 1988.

Plot

Upset about Lynn being dumped by her boyfriend, ALF sets her up with a guy she likes and they go on a date at a drive-in

Teaser

ALF and Willie are talking during dinner. ALF is annoying Willie by responding to everything Willie says with something that rhymes. Lynn returns home and is mad breaking up with her boyfriend, Lloyd.

Act One

The Tanners playing some store-brand version of Trivial Pursuit. Lynn comes in with the mail, and she’s still upset because she was dump by her ex boyfriend Lloyd. There’s a book in the mail for ALF a book which is “Shelly Winters: Guide to True Love. Willie tells ALF to send it back but ALF said the book is for Lynn to help her.

ALF tries to cheer up Lynn and he does get her to open up about what happened. ALF asks Lynn if there’s any other guy she has her eye on, and she tells him about Danny Duckworth, a baseball player. She then pulls out a yearbook to show him his picture, but is nervous of asking him out. ALF reads Shelly's book and one piece of advice is to "ask a friend to set you up" so he calls the operator to find Duckworth's phone number

In the kitchen, Willie is trying to fix a drip coffeemaker that has a banana peel stuck inside. ALF comes in with a razor and asks Willie when was the last time he changed the blades. Willie was asking ALF why was he shaving he explain that he read Shelley’s book on how getting a makeover help increase your beauty. He furiously looked close at ALF's face that he is not allowed to touch anything that touches his face.

Later, Lynn comes in angrily told her parents that ALF prepared for a date with Donny Duckworth the geekiest boy in her school. Confused, ALF thought that Lynn liked Donny, but Lynn said that she liked Danny Duckworth, not his cousin Donny, Lynn can’t change her date with Donny he already got matching bowling shirts.

Later that night, Danny Duckworth came instead because he says Donny got sick and picks up Lynn to go out to a drive-in date. Unbeknownst to them, ALF is the back of the Tanners car which they take to the drive-in.

Act Two

At the drive-in, they’re watching Death Wish 11. Lynn sees ALF and then tells Danny that she needs popcorn now, is absolutely dying for it.

Back at home, Brian asks Mom and Dad why was Lucky's dish bowl was left on the microwave and he wonder where ALF is. That when they realize knows that ALF got lost and in the backseat with Lynn. Trevor comes in from his hunting trip and relaxes with Willie and Kate. Willie asks Trevor if he can borrow his car. Trevor wants to talk about his trip first. Including Raquel fixing a flat tire and a detour north of Big Pine on route 190. Willie leaves and Trevor continues talking to Kate about the trip.

Danny returns with a bucket of popcorn. He puts his arm around Lynn while holding it, and grabs some of the popcorn and later chokes on it. Lynn convinces Danny to leave for some soda and then she talks to ALF again. She’s angry that he's runing her date, but ALF then asks Lynn why she isn’t confessing her feelings for Danny. Lynn explain that she afraid of getting hurt again like how Lloyd hurt her. ALF told her how back on Melmac, he got his heart broken many times even by a girl name Ruby who he was engaged to for 50 years. When he met Rhonda, he decided to wait 17 years to ask her out because he was afraid to get hurt again. When ALF finally asked Rhonda out, his planet exploded the next day and upset he wasted 17 years asking out Rhonda. Lynn understands and realize that she need to move forward.

Danny gets back with the sodas and Lynn decides to reveal her feelings after all. He confesses that he bribed Donny to fake being sick so Danny could go out with her instead. When they are about to kiss, Willie shows up to retrieve ALF. He then mentions wanting an "orange blanket" in the back seat which is a euphemism for ALF. Lynn confirms it’s in the back seat. Danny still has no suspicion at all about anything in the back seat. Willie takes ALF home by carrying him wrapped in the blanket.

Epilogue

When ALF goes home, he and Brian have their own drive-in in the garage. Willie and Kate come in as they join ALF and Brian as they eat popcorn together.

Trivia

Starting with this season, and the remainder of the series, the show’s opening changes from ALF using the camcorder To inserting a videotape in the VCR. Also, the theme song is now lead on by a saxophone.
