ALF mentions that his great uncle Louie Louie was a prospector who started the great foam rush of '08 and that "stupid" was slang for "rich" Lynn finds a map with an X on it in the canteen
Act One[]
Willie and Brian are examining the map and sees that it's of Wild Coba Canyon in Death Valley. Kate dismisses it, but Willie mentions the map is too detailed for it to be nothing good. ALF suggests going next weekend, but Lynn says there were plans to go to San Diego. Willie says they've been to San Diego plenty of times, and wonders why Silas went to the same place many times. Willie tells them he feels Silas' spirit calling him, and Kate jokes about using the money to buy a farm and build a baseball diamond like in Field of Dreams. Willie says they could rent a cabin in the mountains neaby while he and ALF look for the treasure, and it would be a weekend without ALF for her. She agrees.
The family drop off Willie and ALF and Willie sends them off. Willie and ALF are hiking out rest on what Willie thinks is dead man's rock. Willie notices he canteens are empty and ALF says he drank it, not knowing that there's no water in the desert.
Act Two[]
Willie tries to scrounge some drops of water from the canteen. ALF then reads the map instructions to Willie and he starts digging. Later in the day Willie continues to dig while ALF sits on the rock eating bugs. Willie asks ALF if they're digging in the right spot, and ALF realizes that he had the map upside-down, but looks on the bright side saying they now have a latrine, to which Willie says could be a grave. Willie then says he's not going to do anymore digging and lies down to rest. ALF starts to dig but the complains about his blister. ALF is not feeling well, and the Willie realizes that ALF's fur is making him much hotter that Willie is. Willie gives up and suggests they go int he tent and then hike out in the morning
Meanwhile at the cabin, Lynn and Brian come in and Kate says she's got a feeling something bad has going on. Lynn wants to stay because it's what they wanted to do and because there's a frat party in cabin 12. That night, ALF and Willie are outside, because ALF burned down the tent trying to start a signal fire. He mistook a vulture for a plane. Willie is mad about all the food being burned, but the ALF tells him he gathered some "desert lobsters" and hands him a box, which Willie realizes are scorpions. The heat has gotten to ALF a bit, and he's saying things which make no sense.
Willie then says he'll build a small shelter and in the morning he'll walk to town and get some help.
Later that night when Willie's asleep, ALF is digging again, he hits some wooden planks with the shovel and then falls into a big hole, landing with a splash waking Willie up. ALF lament's there's nobody around to fight over the movie rights over the well he fell into. Willie pulls him out and says they now have plenty of water. ALF confesses he drank a lot of it and had been down there for a long time with no bathroom, forcing him to urinate there.
Epilogue[]
