Larson Petty

"The Scourge of Melmac."Gordon Shumway, ("Skipper's Got a Brand New Dad")

General Larson Petty was a Melmacian leader of a private army. He was assisted by his loyal aide, Sloop.

Biography[]

Youth[]

As a youth, Petty lived in an orphanage. He was teased by the other children, who called him "Stinky." On Goomer's Day, other orphans received gifts of foam, but Petty did not. He would later claim that this drove him to a life of crime. (ATAS: "A Mid-Goomer Night's Dream")

Many years later, Larson's uncle Lumbar passed away. Given the pattern of names starting with "L," this may indicate that Larson reconnected with his biological family at some point.

On another Goomer's Day, Petty's piranha got foam and he didn't. (ATAS: "A Mid-Goomer Night's Dream")

Orbit Guard discharge[]

Petty served in the Orbit Guard. He blew up the Zucchini building, stole the statue of Bob the Great, and insulted Cantfayl's mother. (Sloop would later claim "she was asking for it.") Following these actions, Cantfayl 'booted him out' of the Orbit Guard. Petty felt this was unfair, and developed a grudge against him. (ATAS: "Phantom Pilot")

Family life[]

Larson married Larva and they had a son named Eggbert. While still in diapers, Eggbert was kidnapped, and remained missing for about two hundred years. (ATAS: "Skipper's Got a Brand New Dad")

Since Larson reached at least the age of 523, it appears that he started a family when he was in his 300s.

Invasion of Melmac[]

In his later years, now-General Petty plotted revenge against Colonel Cantfayl. He commanded a fleet of jets, and dropped bags of garbage on the city of Velcro. He was thwarted by the Orbit Guard. (ATAS: "Phantom Pilot")

Within Velcro City, Petty appeared to have targeted East Velcro. Given his vendetta against Cantfayl, this may have been because of its proximity to Orbit Guard Headquarters.

Some time after this encounter, Curtis Shumway's mom told him not to fly his Orbit Guard toy in the living room. He responded, "But mom, I have to stop the evil Larson Petty from taking over Melmac!" (ATAS: "Home Away from Home")

Theft of experimental engine[]

When the Orbit Guard received the shipment of a top secret experimental engine, they feared it would fall into the hands of Larson Petty. (ATAS: "Two for the Brig")

Encounter with Muklukians[]

Upon seizing an Orbit Guard garbage ionizer in orbit of Melmac, Petty captured the Muklukians who had previously boarded the vessel. (ATAS: "Tough Shrimp Don't Dance")

Goomer's Day kidnap plot[]

Petty had a party for his 523rd birthday. When no one showed up, he blew up a small planet. After that, he did some pillaging. (ATAS: "A Mid-Goomer Night's Dream")

Whether this was Petty's most recent birthday was not stated. Since all Melmacians die at 650 years of age, Petty had 127 years or less remaining in his lifespan.

One Goomer's Day, Petty decided to kidnap the Goomer. Instead, he mistakenly kidnapped Bob Shumway. The Goomer remarked that Larson Petty was evil, liked long walks in moldy places, had a history of mange, and his favorite show was Nutz & Boltz. His plan was thwarted by the Goomer, along with Augie and Gordon Shumway. (ATAS: "A Mid-Goomer Night's Dream")

Larson later had a new favorite show, The Weird Adventures of Commander Krud. (ATAS: "Skipper's Got a Brand New Dad")

Inheritance scheme[]

When Larson's uncle Lumbar passed away, 400,000 wernicks were bequeathed to Eggbert. In a plan to get the inheritance, Larson claimed to be Skip's long-lost father. The two failed to bond, and Larson arranged for Skip to die in an accident so that he could directly claim the inheritance. The plan failed when Larson fell for the very same trap and ended up in a hospital. Sloop was subsequently discovered to be Larson's real son, but the inheritance money was completely used up by hospital bills. (ATAS: "Skipper's Got a Brand New Dad")

In the midst of his inheritance scheme, Larson's criminal organization suffered from a lack of funding. He subsequently laid off his army and sent them home. (ATAS: "Skipper's Got a Brand New Dad")
