Hail to the Chief is the eleventh episode of ALF's second season. It originally aired on December 7, 1987.
Plot Summary[]
After watching the debate, Kate dreams that she and ALF are rival presidential candidates. Kate keeps dreaming that ALF is a successful candidate who later became the President of USA, but whenever she wakes up, ALF is just minding himself.

ALF is at the the table filling out a voter registration card. Willie says he can't because he's not a citizen, to which ALF says he'll marry Lynn. He's a bit wiry from having had 40 cups of coffee
Act One[]
In the living room Kate puts on the presidential candidate. Lynn balks because she's going to the mall where Lizard works, but Kate tells Lynn that it's important to watch because she'll be voting in this election. Willie comes home late but ALF never bothered to tell Kate that he would be late because he was buying shoes and getting dinner, at the mall Lizard works. The debate is turned on, and John McLaughlin is moderating. The two candidates answer questions with wooden language. ALF mocks them, and Kate talks about the US/USSR conflict then, one of the candidates repeats what she says word for word. ALF then tells her she should run for president. Later that night in Kate and Willie's room, ALF talks about how he thinks the candidates don't give simple answers. Willie tells ALF that he doesn't look at the big picture to which ALF takes literally, and Kate tells him to go look at the painting over their piano. He leaves the room, and Kate and Willie go to bed. Kate then has a dream that she and ALF are participating in a presidential debate with McLaughlin moderating. Kate gives a good answer to his question, and ALF responds by rapping, and suggests that pollution can be captured by putting balloons over smokestacks and then have the balloons stuck to the ceiling of the White House. McLaughlin loves the idea and the audience chants ALF's name
Kate wakes up to see ALF watching her. He got tired of looking at the picture.
Act Two[]
Kate asks ALF what he wants, and says he wants a sandwich. He then asks Kate why the moderator on TV didn't ask important questions. Kate goes back to sleep and has another dream where ALF is moderating a debate with her as one of the candidates. ALF asks her a loaded trick question and then mocks her over her answer and calls her a liar. She denies lying and then mutes her with a TV remote control. Kate is talking in her sleep and wakes up. ALF is watching her again, asks another question and Willie wakes up too. ALF says he has another stupid question and asks why all the candidates look alike, and Kate says that's not a stupid question.
Kate goes back to sleep and dreams about the debate ending, and having lost. Willie, Lynn and Brian are there to see her, then ALF gives Kate his new business card as an image consultant. ALF then suggests she change her name. Kate's dream cuts to another debate with her dressed like Sigourney Weaver. Kate wakes up to ALF again, and gives an affirmative response when asked if she'd be happier if ALF was a burglar. ALF then is wearing Willie's robe and says he wants to be president.
Kate goes back to sleep again and has a dream ALF is president. He then plays Eeny MeenyMiney Moe with a globe and his finger lands on Gabon. He then calls his secretary and has her send a memo toGabon to ask if they want aid or have Sally Struthers to adopt some of their children. She then says Kate is here to see him. He then talks to her and says he hopes she's not upset, but says that he kept waking her up. He says he's surprised he won after being accused of Donna Rice's cat. He says solved unemployment and homelessness by creating jobs of building houses for everyone. Kate looks outside to see people dancing in the streets, and is impressed ALF solved all the problems so quickly. His secretary lets him know that the Ayatollah wants to be the White House Santa Claus at Christmas, He then gets a call summoning him to South Dakota.
The show then cuts to an image of Mount Rushmore with a new face on it; ALF's.
Kate wakes up and tells ALF about her dream.
Epilogue[]
ALF is on the living room sofa and Kate has fallen asleep on top of him trapping him. Lynn comes into the room and ALF asks her to help free him
