Fever

ALF gets very ill and only Carl Shrub can make him better.

Fever is the twelfth episode of ALF's fourth and final season. It originally aired on Dec. 4, 1989.

Plot Summary[]

ALF gets extremely Sick and fears that he is going to die. The Tanners don't know what to do, but ALF tells them that the Carl Shrub in the Melmacian diet is what keeps them immune to infectious diseases. ALF looks in a book and finds that ragweed looks very similar to Carl Shrub. The Tanners get ALF ragweed and fortunately it seems to have similar healing properties to Carl Shrub.

The family is preparing for a barbecue, but Kate discovers that the spare ribs have been picked clean by ALF. A rainstorm comes and ruins their plans

Act One[]

The family rushes inside and tries to make sure they have everything. ALF says Willie was pinned under the grill. Willie comes in and is drenched from the rain. He then confronts Willie about knocking over the grill while trying to leave. Kate tells everyone to slip out of their wet clothes before they catch cold. Willie dismisses this as a myth but starts sneezing


Later Kate is serving Willie breakfast in bed, and gets him some more tissues. ALF comes in to find out Willie is feeling better. Willie wants to call his office to try and work half a day. ALF starts sneezing and Willie thinks he caught his cold. ALF says that's not possible because his species never gets sick. Kate sends him to the attic just in case. The next day Willie wakes up to find ALF in his bed. Willie then tries to have Kate make him leave. Willie asks ALF about his immunity, and ALF says scientists thing it had something to do with a plant in their diet known as Carl Shrub. ALF goes to sleep.


A week later, ALF is becoming more ill and he's lying on the couch next to a table full of cough medicines. ALF summons Willie in to fluff his pillow. Willie reminds ALF that it's only a cold and not something life threatening. Kate comes in with some grocery bags of items ALF requested. Willie thinks ALF milking this, and ALF says he's feeling worse, not better.


Two days later ALF is feeling worse, and Willie is questioning why ALF is not getting better. Kate feels his head and finds that his body temperature is very high. Willie gets much more sympathetic, and tells Kate how he remembers in War of the Worlds, that the invading Martians died from Earth bacteria and is worried the same might happen to ALF.

Act Two[]

ALF is still sick and Willie is on the phone with his doctor. He's pretending to be sick to cover for ALF and tries to find out what ALF might have. Kate is making ALF his favorite soup, cream of pizza. Willie says that ALF doesn't get well in two days that they should risk taking him to a doctor. ALF comes in with a botany book saying he found a picture of Carl, the plant that gave Melmacians their immunity. It turns out to be ragweed.


Kate and Willie sneak into the Ochmonek's yard to pull some ragweed plants. Trevor finds them and they tell him that they were there to help weed the garden. Raquel is skeptical it too. Later ALF is on the couch, and Willie and Kate are bundled up because the air conditiontioner is on maximum. Kate tells ALF the ragweed is almost ready. ALF is getting bad but tells them things won't be bad until he thinks he's at Tokyo Disneyland with Annette Funicello. ALF talks to Willie about a will, and Kate comes back in. ALF starts thinking she's Annette. Willie sends Kate in to get the ragweed and they start feeding it to ALF


ALF is in the kitchen with a chocolate covered turkey asking about where the pesto is. He's feeling better and suggests marketing his ragweed cold cure. Kate and Lynn mention that it makes most people on earth sick

Epilogue[]

Kate and Willie are in the kitchen preparing for a barbecue. ALF shows up at the window mentioning he's gotten the wheels of the barbecue grill on fire.
