Break Up to Make Up is the tenth episode of ALF's fourth and final season. It originally aired on Nov. 20, 1989.

Plot Summary[]

When Dorothy and Whizzer have a fight, she leaves him and comes to stay with the Tanners.

Whizzer comes looking for her and goes to the kitchen where ALF is hiding and sees him.

When Dorothy gets back from the airport, she and Whizzer have a discussion where they make a compromise that he will get a gig that doesn't involve traveling, whether or not it is in Los Angeles.

Teaser[]

The family is preparing for a party celebrating the 3rd anniversary of ALF landing on Earth. ALF is upset there won't be any dancing poodles and wondering where Neal is. He's picking up some wine on his way. The phone rings and it's Dorothy. She's at the airport having flown in after a fight with Whizzer. Kate is headed to pick her up

Act One[]

The family, sans Kate are playing pictionary and ALF is having trouble with the clue "Time Flies" Willie is going next and Brian gets it immediately "All Quiet on the Western Front" The doorbell rings and its Neal wearing a toga. Neal says that ALF told him it was a toga party. Neal asks where the dogs are and ALF says they're at the airport,

At the airport, Dorothy is at the lost baggage department, irate about her bags being missing. The desk clerk is being sardonic with her and Kate shows up asking what happened. She doesn't want to talk about it at first, but she later says he's too obsessed with his music and that he travels for gigs all the time. Kate is defending Whizzer knowing that he was like this before he met Dorothy.

At the house, Willie and ALF are playing "Name that Tune" with ALF guessing correctly for the themes from "The Jeffersons" "Green Acres" and "Arnie" Lynn wants to do another game. Kate calls the house to let Willie know that the airline lost Dorothy's bags. The doorbell rings and ALF goes to hide in the kitchen. Whizzer shows up in a tizzy and says hi to everyone. He barges into the kitchen for a beer. Willie tries to stop him but it's too late. Whizzer sees ALF and screams. ALF pretends he's a dog and cat

Act Two[]

Whizzer is icing his head and still a bit surprised about ALF, later telling him he's only the third strangest thing he's seen. Neal comes to give Whizzer a glass of water. Whizzer has more questions for ALF. Whizzer wonders how many other people have met aliens after their wife left them and Neal raises his hand.

Kate is driving Dorothy home, and Dorothy is ranting about her lost bag and Whizzer. Kate is still defending him, and suggests she call him. She says he might be at a bar buying a drink for some floozy because that's how he met her. At the house Willie, Lynn, Whizzer, ALF and Neal are playing poker. ALF is cheating as usual.

Kate and Dorothy are outside with Dorothy still complaining about Whizzer. They walk in to see Whizzer fighting over ALF's cards. ALF implies Dorothy is a witch by offering her a broom and suggesting she's upset because Toto escaped from her basket. Dorothy and Whizzer go into the kitchen for some privacy and talk about their problems. Whizzer won't give up music but agrees to look for a permanent gig wherever that is. They kiss and ALF opens the shutters and is disgusted.

Epilogue[]

Whizzer and Dorothy get into the sofa bed to kiss more. ALF asks if they'd be more comfortable at the Y and suggests they make a movie about her life "Lady Brings the Blues" Dorothy asks when he's going to sleep, and ALF says once the David Letterman show is over.
