Baby Come Back

Baby, Come Back is the first episode of ALF's fourth and final season. This is the season premiere. It originally aired on Sept. 18, 1989.

Plot Summary[]

Kate is pressured by her boss to come in to work, and she is forced to leave Eric with ALF.

Teaser[]

Eric is in his playpen crying and Willie tries to hush him, by making funny faces, and speaking in a calm and soothing voice with no luck. ALF gives it a try by yelling "Quiet!" and Eric immediately starts giggling.

Act One[]

Kate is interviewing a potential babysitter, and when she mentions the sound of babies crying bothers her. She decides that's enough and starts to have her leave, but she tells Kate she can wear a Walkman to drown the noise out. Willie comes in to ask Kate if she's had any luck, but she says no, and that she won't be able to show any more houses until she finds a sitter. Willie wonders if maybe they're not offering enough money. ALF offers to do it for free, but is turned down. ALF worries about what will happen to the food in "his" fridge., and Willie tells ALF he'll need to be in the attic while the babysitter is there. ALF continues mentioning that he's good with kids, but Kate reaffirms no because of ALF's history of destructive behavior.

ALF walks in on Kate trying to burp Eric, and little luck. ALF wants to give it a try, and succeeds on the first try, which ALF suggests is cause for him to help.

Later, ALF is in the living room and Kate puts Eric into the playpen. The phone rings and it's her boss asking her to show a house to a client in a rush. He's insistent she go right away to meet the client. Kate tries to reach the Ochmoneks but they're on vacation, ALF thinks Mrs. Carlson is crazy to sit, and Mrs. Applebaum is busy getting a sex-change operation. Kate can't reach Lynn because she's in school which leaves ALF is the only possible choice. She tells ALF what to do and goes out. 15 Minutes later ALF is watching a soap opera and overhears Eric making some noise. He goes in to find Eric needs a diaper change. He changes the diaper, and then takes the soiled diaper outdoors to bury it. While he is outside Brian and Lynn come in to get Brian's baseball mitt, and Lynn gets Eric. Lynn tells Brian to let ALF know they have the baby. Brian yells to ALF but he doesn't hear him. When he goes into Eric's room, he finds him gone.

Act Two[]

ALF is on the phone with the operator, saying that the baby is missing but his theories are not believed. Willie comes in, and is worried when ALF mentions he did something, and tells him not to go into the kitchen. The kitchen is fine and Willie finds ALF in the fireplace. He says being there has nothing to do with Eric. Willie goes into Eric's room not to find him there. ALF tells Willie that Eric is missing. Willie panics and ALF tells him what happened. Willie and ALF continue to look for him. ALF suggests a dingo took him, and Willie starts making speculation but decides to call the police to put a missing baby report. While on the phone with the police, Kate comes into the house. Willie then tells her he has something serious to mention and she thinks at first it may have something to do with her mother. Willie sits her down to tel her Eric is missing but Kate says he's with them. Willie is relieved and tells everyone they didn't know he was with them. Kate tells ALF how she reached Lynn after school. ALF then mentions he never heard what Brian said, and ALF upset that he was not given a proper chance to watch Eric.

Epilogue[]

ALF is asleep in Eric's playpen holding Berenstain Bears and the New Baby having fallen asleep reading it to Eric who is still awake. Kate and Willie take Eric out and ALF wakes up thinking Eric disappeared again.
