Background information[]

Production history[]

  • Premiere airdate: October 1, 1988

Continuity[]

  • The episode title is a snowclone of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.
  • ALF is typing on a computer keyboard rather than a typewriter.
  • ALF says Goomer’s day was a holiday a lot like Christmas.
  • None of the Shumway Family pets appear in this episode.
  • The background music sounds like “Jingle Bells.”
  • Goomer's Day occurs "When the moons are in alignment on the 30th of Kilmer."
  • Flo says this is the first day Augie knows what Goomer’s Day is about. This implies that she is still very young, even by Melmacian standards.
  • When Rick and Skip visit, Gordon tells them to “come in out of the goop.” It rains something other than water on Melmac.
  • Larson Petty lived in an orphanage when he was younger. He claims that the Goomer drove him to a life of crime, since he gifted foam to the other orphans, but not him.
  • The Goomer says that Larson Petty is evil, likes long walks in moldy places, has a history of mange, and his favorite show is “Nuts and Bolts.” The other kids called Petty “Stinky” when he was a kid, and he hated the nickname.
  • Larson Petty says that no one showed up for his 523rd birthday party, so he blew up a small planet. After that, he did some pillaging. If this episode takes place in 1951/1952, Petty was born around 1428/1429. Since all Melmacians die at 650 years of age, Petty has 127 years or less remaining in his lifespan. With a date of natural death at 2078/2079, it is possible that Petty was still a threat to the Orbit Guard in 1986 when Melmac was destroyed.
  • The Goomerscope display resembles the Pac-Man video game.
  • On a previous Goomer’s Day, Larson Petty’s piranha got foam and he didn’t.
  • The Goomer’s foam present for Augie resembles a Melmacian Troll.
  • This is the first of three episodes that do not have a live-action epilogue. The other two are "The Bone Losers" and "Hooray for Mellywood."
